UC-operated Lick Observatory receives $1M donation from Google

Google announced Tuesday that it gave a $1 million gift to the University of California’s Lick Observatory to support the observatory’s research and academic mission. The donation, which will be split into two $500,000 allocations, will add to the observatory’s $1.5 million annual allocation from the UC Office of the President. Read more...

Bill would give undocumented students access to state-funded work-study

Undocumented students at California public universities may gain access to state-funded work-study jobs if a new bill is passed, provided they meet certain benchmarks. Assembly Bill 206, introduced by Assembly members Mark Stone (D-Monterey Bay) and Jose Medina (D-Riverside) late last month, would create the California Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Work-Study Program under the California Student Aid Commission. Faculty to resubmit diversity requirement petition with wording changes

The professors and administrators who petitioned for another vote on a diversity course requirement proposal withdrew their petition Thursday to make wording changes. The wording changes, which come from the Academic Senate Committee on Rules and Jurisdiction, are meant to clarify that the requirement would only apply to students in the UCLA College of Letters and Science and not to those in other schools.
