Pulitzer Prize winner, former chair of UCLA History Daniel Walker Howe dies at 88

Daniel Walker Howe, the former chair of UCLA’s history department and a Pulitzer Prize winner, died Dec. 25. He was 88 years old. Howe was a faculty member in UCLA’s history department from 1972 to 1993 and served as the department’s chair from 1983 to 1987. Read more...

Thousands of people protest in Westwood for Iranian regime change

This post was updated Feb. 1 at 9:59 p.m. Thousands of people blocked off streets and protested in Westwood on Sunday for Iranian regime change. Protesters – who chanted “we want freedom” and “Trump, act now” – blocked off parts of Westwood Boulevard between Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard starting at about 12:45 p.m.  The Islamic Republic, Iran’s incumbent government, has killed more than 6,000 people since protests broke out in the country in December amid an economic crisis, according to the United States-based Human Rights Activists News Agency. Students, community members participate in Westwood homeless count

Community members documented the number of people experiencing homelessness in Westwood as part of a larger Los Angeles wide count Jan. 22. Both first-time volunteers and returners – including UCLA students and faculty – participated in the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, an annual three-day count of the amount of people experiencing homelessness within different LA communities.
