Anderson School of Management Dean Judy Olian steps down

The dean of the UCLA Anderson School of Management is stepping down to lead another university. Judy Olian, who has served as Anderson’s dean since 2006, will be leaving her position at the end of the academic year to become the president of Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, said Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Scott Waugh in a message to faculty and staff Monday. UCLA alumnus starts hat company with brother for cancer patients

Shaun Veran’s little brother, Keane Veran, began to wear hats after his hair fell out during treatment for leukemia. However, Keane Veran was worried that the caps he wore would cause infection because of his weakened immune system, and could not find a hat that was either machine washable or antibacterial. UCLA researchers determine atomic structure of defective prions

UCLA researchers have determined the atomic structure of part of a protein that causes certain neurodegenerative diseases. In a study published earlier in January, researchers in the lab of Jose Rodriguez, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, determined the structure of a segment of prion, a protein that causes diseases such as mad cow disease, when it is defective.
