Students shake off disaster worries at earthquake preparedness event

Students evacuated an outdoor escape room and learned what to do in the event of an earthquake at an emergency preparedness event Thursday. Student groups and administrations, such as the undergraduate student government Facilities Commission, UCLA Residential Life and the Communication Emergency Response Team at UCLA, hosted “Escape the Quake: Bruins Safe” at the Court of Sciences. Covered California to add surcharge to Silver plan in 2018

California’s state health insurance agency announced a surcharge Wednesday to some insurance policies in its 2018 health plan. Covered California added a 12.4 percent surcharge on its Silver plan, the second-least expensive plan, because the federal government did not indicate whether it would continue funding cost-sharing reduction reimbursements next year. UCLA Ashe Center expands features, services with OptumRx mobile app

A health insurance mobile application for UCLA students expanded its medication and prescription features this year. The University of California Student Health Insurance Plan expanded the services of one of its mobile apps, OptumRx, which it started using in 2015, said Barbara Rabinowitz, insurance manager for UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Wellness and Health Center. UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic provides exams for preschool, homeless patients

There was something different about one of the thousands of preschool patients examined by the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic. “There was this young kid who was very shy, nonverbal, always walking with his head down,” said Patricia Aguilar, an ophthalmic assistant at the clinic. Read more...
